TopFollow on OnePlus: enabling unknown app sources
Installing TopFollow on a OnePlus phone can require one extra Android security step. If the app is supplied as an APK rather than through Google Play, OxygenOS may block the package until you authorise the specific app used to open it, such as Chrome or Files.
The setting is controlled per source, so enabling it for Chrome does not automatically permit Files by Google or another browser. This approach gives you more control, but it also means you should check the download, permissions and account risks before proceeding.
TopFollow uses a coin-based system for ordering Instagram followers and likes, with features such as referrals and coin purchases. It is independent of Instagram and Meta, and its use may conflict with Instagram’s rules, so treat the installation as an informed technical choice rather than an official Instagram feature.
Why OnePlus blocks APK installation
Android calls software installed outside Google Play an app from an unknown source. The phrase does not necessarily mean the file is malicious; it means Android cannot rely on the usual Play Store review and delivery controls. OnePlus devices therefore ask you to approve the browser or file manager that starts the installation.
The wording can vary between OxygenOS versions and OnePlus models. A current phone may show “Install unknown apps” under security settings, while an older device may use “Unknown sources”. Searching for that phrase in the Settings app is often faster than following a menu path that differs between OxygenOS 11, 12, 13, 14 and newer releases.
Prepare your OnePlus phone first
Before changing any setting, charge the phone, connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network and confirm that you have enough storage. This is useful if you are downloading while commuting through Sydney or Melbourne, where a patchy mobile connection can produce an incomplete APK. Keep the file in a recognisable folder, such as Downloads, rather than opening an attachment from an unknown message.
Use the official download page or a reputable APK archive, and check that the file name, version and package size look consistent. You can also scan the file with a mobile security tool before opening it. General APK reference material may help when comparing file formats and installation requirements, but it should not replace checking the source of the particular TopFollow package.
Find the installation permission
Open Settings on your OnePlus and use the search field for “install unknown apps”. Select the result, then choose the application you will use to launch the APK. If you downloaded it through Chrome, select Chrome; if you plan to open it in Files, select Files or Files by Google.
Turn on “Allow from this source”. On some OxygenOS builds, the route is Settings, Security and privacy, More security and privacy, Installation sources. On older models, it may be Settings, Security, Unknown sources. Only enable the permission for the source you trust and avoid granting it broadly to every application on the phone.
Install the TopFollow APK safely
Return to Downloads and tap the TopFollow APK. Android will display the package name and may show a warning because the application came from outside Google Play. Review the requested permissions and cancel if the file asks for access that does not make sense for a follower or engagement utility, such as unrestricted access to personal files, contacts or accessibility controls.
Google Play Protect may scan the package before installation or warn that it has not been reviewed. Do not dismiss a malware alert automatically. Stop if the download redirects repeatedly, requests a second installer, or asks you to disable several security tools. Once the installation finishes, turn off “Allow from this source” for Chrome or Files unless you regularly need sideloading.
Set up the app without exposing your account
Launch TopFollow from the app drawer and read its sign-in instructions carefully. Avoid entering an Instagram password into a screen that does not clearly explain how credentials are protected. If the app supports a safer authorisation method, use that instead. A separate Instagram account can reduce exposure, though it may still be affected by platform enforcement.
TopFollow commonly describes coins, referrals, follower orders and like orders as separate parts of its service. Read the terms for expiry rules, delivery timing and refund conditions before spending coins. Australians should also keep a receipt and review the payment description, since card issuers and consumers may need clear transaction records under ordinary Australian Consumer Law expectations.
Understand coins, payments and local costs
Coin prices can change with currency conversion, taxes, payment processing and the seller’s terms. A prepaid Visa or debit card may be convenient, but use only a payment method you can monitor and never share a one-time verification code. The payment methods guide explains the supported options and gives you a better basis for checking whether a purchase route suits your circumstances.
Australian users should remember that a digital service supplied from overseas may not operate like a local subscription provider. Keep screenshots of the price, purchase confirmation and refund policy. If a charge looks unauthorised, contact the bank promptly and preserve the relevant emails. Avoid buying coins over public Wi-Fi at a café, airport or shopping centre, particularly if the transaction requires account credentials.
Check account and privacy risks
Instagram can detect unusual activity, rapid follows, repeated likes or sudden changes in account behaviour. Automated engagement may reduce reach, trigger verification, or lead to restrictions under Instagram’s terms. No APK can guarantee permanent followers or protect an account from moderation. Treat promises of instant growth with caution, especially when they require your main profile login.
Privacy also matters under Australia’s Privacy Act 1988, even though an overseas app may have different obligations or policies. Read its privacy statement and limit the personal information you provide. Do not upload identity documents, address details or screenshots containing private messages. If the app requests contacts or SMS access, deny it unless that permission is clearly necessary for the feature you intend to use.
Remove access when you finish
If you decide not to continue, uninstall TopFollow through Settings, Apps, App management, TopFollow, Uninstall. Then revisit the installation-source permission and switch it off for Chrome, Files or any other installer. Run Play Protect again, remove the downloaded APK and review Instagram’s logged-in devices and connected applications.
Change your Instagram password if you entered it into an unfamiliar screen, and enable two-factor authentication through Instagram’s security settings. Check for unexpected emails, new follows or profile changes during the following days. OnePlus users in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and other Australian cities can complete these checks over a home connection rather than rushing through them on public networks.
Download the APK only from a source you can evaluate, enable the permission for one installer at a time, and disable it after use. Review TopFollow’s terms, coin pricing and privacy requirements before creating an account, then monitor Instagram activity closely so you can remove access at the first sign of suspicious behaviour.
